Story & Press
POPSICKLE is a yearly all-day megareading that incorporates the curatorial visions of various Brooklyn-based reading series, literary organizations, and presses. The fest always takes place in a different setting. The 2016 POPSICKLE is run by Niina Pollari, Michael Stewart, and Travis Brace.
POPSICKLE was founded in 2010 by Niina Pollari and Douglas Piccinnini. Co-coordinators throughout the fest’s lifetime have been JD Scott (2012-2014) and Zane Van Dusen (2015). The fest is entirely staffed by volunteers, without whom the fest wouldn’t exist, so thank you: Jesse Rice-Evans, Katherine Pan, Eve Bates, Ellen LaVeyra, Julianna Schley, Bev Rivero, and Katherine St. Asaph.
In its first year, POPSICKLE took place at Market Hotel. In its second year, the festival was held at Gowanus Ballroom. In its third year, POPSICKLE took over Paper Box NYC. In its fourth year, POPSICKLE partied at Launchpad. In 2014, POPSICKLE got down at Forgotten Works Studio and Berl’s. In 2015, POPSICKLE was seen raging at the Living Gallery.
